If you find that a relaxing scroll through your phone tends to add stress, rather than relieve it, then you might benefit from Happy Color.
An online paint-by-numbers app, Happy Color provides a series of blank templates for users to color.
Happy Color - Color By Numbers was developed by X-Flow, and released in July 2018. The idea behind Happy Color is simple.
Users can pick their favorite outlined images, and click to fill each area with the specified paint color. It’s paint-by-numbers that you can complete on the go, without the mess.
The simplicity of Happy Color hasn’t stopped it from rising to the top 10 free games on iOS, passing many other online coloring games along the way.
Although the range of pictures have expanded (and Happy Color have partnered with major corporations such as Disney), the app stays true to its roots as a coloring book.
Happy Color is free to download, but there are in-app purchases available. Happy Color is available for both iOS systems via the Apple App Store, and for Android systems via the Google Play Store.
Happy Color is available for iPhone, iPad, and the iPod Touch on devices that run iOS 12.0 or later. You can also download Happy Color on a Mac, although it must run macOS 11.0 or later.
Happy Color can also be downloaded on supported Android devices, but not on computers.
As a free app, Happy Color is widely available and easy to access. However, it is a large app, and it takes up a lot of memory space.
With so many pictures available for users, it’s easy to see why the app is so large. But it is a big download for a simple game.
Happy Color has a recommended age limit of 12+, with pictures ranging from very simple to surprisingly complex.
Although a paint-by-numbers app might initially seem like a game aimed at children, the varied and attractive imagery will appeal to adults!
Families can enjoy using Happy Color, although really young kids will struggle with many of the pictures. And while most of the pictures are family friendly, there are a few that push the boundaries.
Parents may prefer to download Happy Color on their own devices, and choose pictures for their children to color.
Parents have also raised concerns with the ads on the Happy Color app. Some unavoidable ads are not family friendly!
Happy Color is available in 20 languages, including English, Arabic, French, Spanish, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
There isn’t a great deal of writing used on the app. For the most part, you can simply click through to your preferred picture, and start coloring.
Happy Color is a free app, but it does offer a couple of in-app purchases.
If you want to go ad free, you can remove ads with a one time payment. However, be aware that some users have found that even after they’ve paid, ads are still popping up.
Banner ads are shown alongside the pictures, and video ads play between puzzles, so the ads can feel intrusive.
You can also pay to download different picture packs on Happy Color. These tend to be collaborations. For example, you might pay extra for a Marvel themed pack.
Although there are additional purchases, it is easy to enjoy Happy Color as a free game.
Open up the Happy Color app, and you’ll find yourself greeted by rows and rows of black and white images. These are the pictures available to fill with color.
Scroll through, and you should quickly find a design that catches your eye.
Once you’ve chosen your image, Happy Color provides you with a palate. Click on a color, and the areas to fill with this color will become highlighted.
Tap to fill them, and start to see your picture come to life! When your picture is complete, you can watch an animation, showing how you completed the project.
Can’t find all the areas to be colored? You can earn hints by watching animations.
Happy Color is designed to be methodical and relaxing, and it’s easy to get sucked into the pictures as you color.
You might be surprised at just how much time can pass as you complete a Happy Color picture.
And don’t worry, you’re unlikely to run out of images — Happy Color adds new ones every day, and you can access additional pictures via the Happy Color social media.
Happy Color isn’t a particularly strenuous game. It can feel repetitive, and because you’re given all the colors, it lacks the creativity of other coloring apps.
But if you want a click and color game with a range of choices, then it’s hard to beat.
There are a lot of coloring apps available for download, although none as popular as Happy Color. A quick search for coloring books in your app store will show you just how many options you have.
