How To Make A Playlist On TikTok

TikTok is doing exceptionally well since its launch back in 2016. By 2018, it topped the charts in America as being the highest downloaded app for that year.

It has gone on to earn that title again and again in the years that followed.

With over 1.8 billion active users during the summer of 2022, the ease of use and overall popularity has attracted a number of people to use its platform.

Many people have kickstarted their own careers on TikTok, especially during 2020 when a lot of people had nothing better to do.

Influencers are ruling the roost, and while Instagram is full of influential Generations Zs and millenials, TikTok has provided a space for those who want to make content that is less about what they look like, and more about what they have to say.

One of the ways TikTokkers are making the most of the platform is by creating playlists of their own content - but how do you do it?

Fortunately, it is easy, though not everyone has the option to do so. In this article we shall explain how to create a TikTok playlist, and why you might not be able to do so yet.

How To Create A TikTok Playlist

There are two ways to make a playlist, either through your profile, or via a particular video. Here we shall explain how to do both.

However, just keep in mind that a playlist can only be made from your own videos, and not another TikTokkers content.

How To Make A Playlist Via A Video

• Using the TikTok app, choose a video that you would like to create a playlist from. Do note that the video must be public.
• Either press and hold the video, or tap on the icon that looks like three dots. This will be on the right hand side of the video.
• An option to ‘Add to playlist’ will come up. Tap it. ‘Create a playlist’ will follow. Tap it again.
• You will then be prompted to name the playlist and to add public videos.

How To Make A Playlist Via Your Profile

• Using the TikTok app, on the bottom of the screen to the right you will see ‘profile’. Tap on it.
• Tap on the ‘videos’ tab and go to ‘Sort videos into playlists’. Only tap this if you have not created any playlists yet. If you do already have playlists, use the + icon which will be next to your other playlists.
• You will then be prompted to name the playlist and to add some videos. To create a playlist, you must only add public videos.

Is There A Way To Add A Video To A TikTok Playlist?

Even though you have already created a playlist, it does not mean that you have to be stuck with only those particular videos forever. There are ways to add separate videos to a playlist. Here is how:

• Open the TikTok app and choose the video you wish to add to a playlist. As usual, it must be a public video only.
• To the right hand side of the video you will see three dots representing a menu. Either tap that or hold down on the video.
• You will then need to tap on ‘Add to playlist’.
• You will then be prompted to choose which playlist you would like to add this particular video to.

However, do keep in mind that a video can only belong to one playlist. If you want it to be in a different one, then you must remove it from the playlist it is currently in.

How Do You Remove A TikTok Video From A Playlist?

There may come a time when you will want to remove a video from a playlist, whether that is because you do not think it fits the playlist anymore, or because you want to move it to a different playlist.

So, let’s take a look at how to do it:

• Open the TikTok app and find the video that you wish to remove off the playlist.
• To the right hand side you will find the three dotted menu. Tap that or hold the video down.
• You will be prompted with ‘Remove from playlist’. Tap that to remove the video off the playlist.

Do note that removing a video from the playlist will not delete it. It just will not be available in the playlist anymore.

Why Can’t I Create A TikTok Playlist?

If you really want to make a playlist but cannot see anywhere on the app that allows you to (such as the ‘Create a playlist’ option), then there is a good chance that you just are not able to do so yet.

It was originally launched as a feature for select influencers only, but now you can use the feature on both business and creator accounts.

There is no clear explanation as to why some people do not have the option to make a playlist on Tiktok, but it looks like it is something that they are still in the middle of rolling out.

Do keep in mind that those with a high number of followers are likely to get these options first.

Creating playlists on TikTok is a fun way to show off your content on the platform all in one place.

It means you can categorize different types of videos together to produce some entertaining footage for all to see, without users having to search for them on your profile.

Unfortunately, while it is simple to do so, not everyone will have the option yet.

Even though there is no clear reason as to why some TikTok users cannot access the make a playlist function, those with a high number of followers may already be able to do so.

Until it rolls out to you, you may just have to make do without being able to create a playlist.
