By priding itself on bringing people of different political ideologies together, the Truth Social app defines itself by allowing individuals to let their voices be heard.
That’s in the form of a ‘Truth’ which can be posted on the social media platform, similar to a tweet on Twitter. You can also perform a ‘Re-Truth’ to publicize someone else’s ‘Truth’ on your platform.
The social media platform also has the capability to allow a user to post a photo, video link, or news story.
The app also includes a Truth Feed which helps a user find out those activities and opinions that matter to a user. These are typically the people, news outlets, and organizations that a user decides to follow.
The color tones are a light purple though that is one difference to the marked similarities in the features to those on Twitter.
In fact, if you are a user of Twitter then the Truth Social app will look very familiar and it should be effortless to use.
The Truth Social app can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS. If you have a Samsung Galaxy device, you can also use the Galaxy Store.
Furthermore, if you have an Android device, you can download the app from the Google Play Store.
In fact, the Truth Social app was only made available on the Google Play Store as recently as October 2022 amid concerns over how the app had violated policies prohibiting hosting content that included incitement to violence.
If you do want to use the Truth Social app, you can only be in two countries. These include the US and Canada, in every other country the social media platform is yet to become available.
That means if you live in Europe, India, China, Australia, or any other country, you cannot even start up an account.
You could use a VPN to both access the website and create your own account but without one you will not be able to gain access.
The Truth Social app was created as a riposte to media control, predominantly by the former US President, Donald Trump.
If you do want to read the views of the former US President then the Truth Social app is one of the few places that you can do so.
There is also more room to post more content as each ‘Truth’ can contain up to 500 characters. This is 220 more characters than are allowed in a tweet on Twitter which does mark out the social media platform.
If you have used Gettr and Parler as a ‘free speech’ conservative social media platform that provides an alternative to Twitter, then Truth Social should appear to be the best-looking one.
This looks like a modern, slick web platform and one that is so easy to use to quickly post your views and your relevant content.
Simply tap on a floating button and compose your ‘truth’ then enjoy the enhanced room of 500 characters.
One of the pros of using the Truth Social app is how it is designed to go against ‘woke culture’ and to be less about content moderation.
If the social media platform does succeed, it will be by attracting a range of political views from many users and their ‘big tent’ method.
Another benefit of using the Truth Social app is how similar it is to Twitter, essentially the features and the profiles look remarkably similar.
The alerts is your place to see all your notifications and the ‘re-truths’ from the users you follow. There is also your specially designed feed which is made up of the ‘truths’ and posts from those users you follow.
Finding users is easy enough, as soon as you find a user you want to hear more from simply follow them, like, re-truth, or reply to their ‘truths’.
However, if you do not want to hear from a particular user you can block or mute them. The Truth Social app also has some worthwhile security features like a two-factor authentication.
If you are already familiar with Twitter, there is little to get excited about with the Truth Social app. Many of the features and the platform’s functionality are pretty much the same as you would find on Twitter.
Retweets are called Re-Truths, your news feed is your Truth Feed, and there is also the capability for direct messages, notifications, and searching for topics as well as users, etc.
This should not come as much of a surprise when this new platform was created with an open-source license by Mastodon, which was created to rival Twitter initially.
The social media platform has also courted controversy for its lack of security. In fact, Truth Social has been a target for hackers and those with early access were even able to secure a user handle as ‘donaldtrump’.
If the social media platform is going to succeed, it will have to take its cyber-security a lot more seriously.
There are also legitimate concerns about data privacy as the social media platform looks to collect data around a user’s contact information as well as the media that they post.
